Yolanda Thomas to join Shubert in new leadership role at Tulsa Soccer Club
Tulsa Soccer Club is pleased to announce the addition of Yolanda Thomas as a full time Girls Director of Coaching. Thomas will join long-time leader Kerry Shubert in leading the girls’ side of the Tulsa Soccer Club youth academy.
Most recently, Thomas led the Rogers State Hillcats for two seasons accumulating 15 wins. Under her leadership three players achieved All Region Honors, seven players received All Conference honors, and her teams received the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for their performance in the classroom.
President Barry Williams said “I’m very happy that Yolanda has chosen to join our club in a full-time capacity. She brings enthusiasm, innovation, leadership and a broad knowledge base to complement Kerry Shubert in leading our Girls Youth Academy.”
Thomas had an impressive overall playing career. While at Oklahoma State University she was a 3-time All-American, 2-time Big 12 Player of the Year, and was selected as a finalist for NCAA Woman of the Year in 2009. In addition, Thomas has 25 caps representing her native country of Sweden as she played
on every youth National Team from U15-U23, including captaining the U19 Swedish National Team in 2003. She also played seven seasons in the Swedish Top league “Damallsvenskan”.
Girls ECNL Director Kerry Shubert said “I know Yolanda really well and couldn’t think of a better person to strengthen our girl’s academy. She has already made an impression on our players with the passion she brings in training. She’ll add leadership and work ethic behind the scenes as well.”
Thomas also led the WPSL Fortuna Tulsa Women’s side this past summer to a conference title and regional final appearance in the summer of 2019. She was selected as the WPSL Red River Conference Coach of the Year.
“I’m elated to get to work. I’d like to thank Barry Williams and Kerry Shubert for the opportunity as well as the many coaches around the state who have helped me develop my craft. It’s a privilege to be joining Tulsa Soccer Club at such a pivotal time.”
Thomas also brings experience from working in the US Soccer Development Academy
during the 2018-19 season and as an assistant Coach at the University of Tulsa 2015-2018.
Thomas holds a USSF B License and a USYS National Youth License.
