TSC 97 RED GIRLS DOMINATE U14 SPRING CLASSIC INVITATIONAL

TSC 97 Girls Red and Hurricane TFA 01G Do Well at Dallas Spring Classic

Both TSC Hurricane’s TFA 01 Girls, coached by Richard Beattie, and TSC 97 Girls Red, coached by Donivan Bradshaw, followed up their impressive Lexus Tulsa Cup performances in early April with the 97s winning the Spring Classic Championship while the 01 Girls reached the finals playing in the 11v11 format.

TSC 97 Red girl’s team followed up their impressive U16 Lexus Tulsa Cup Championship in early April by also capturing the Spring Classic Invitational U14 Championship, held April 22-24, 2011 in Plano, TX. Throughout the blustery, stormy Easter holiday weekend, 97 Red dominated the field of north and south Texas teams, posting 17 goals to none against in five games.

97 Red opened the tournament Friday evening with a commanding 5-0 win over National Fusion 97 (now affiliated with Albion Hurricanes) at Carpenter Park. In Saturday action at Russell Creek Park, the girls defeated FC Dallas Youth East 3-0 and later that evening managed to just complete game three of bracket play versus TFC 97 Blue. During the dimly-lit contest, which concluded moments ahead of a tremendous lightning storm, TFC survived the 97 Red offensive until just before the half when a TSC blast from the right wing found the top left corner of the net. In the second half, TSC whipped in three additional goals, including a header capper, to win 4-0 and seal their bid to the semi-finals with a perfect record in bracket play (12 goals, 0 against, 30 points).

The semi-final on Easter Sunday at Russell Creek Park featured a PLW re-match of TSC 97 Red against the Albion Hurricanes 97. TSC was unable to finish their sporadic first-half blitz strikes but did successfully weather the wind in their face as well as multiple Albion corner kicks. With a 0-0 half-time score as well as the wind behind them, TSC quickly set up quarters deep in Albion territory, where play remained camped for the majority of the second half. Numerous TSC shots were missed or saved before 97 Red converted on a corner kick following a just-saved TSC freekick. The TSC midfield and defense made “heady”-work of owning the center and TSC’s keeper knocked down a late Albion fast-break shot to hold onto the 1-0 margin and earn 97 Red a final bid.

In the other semi-final, Wildcard TFC 97 Blue upset top-seeded Sting 97 Wright 2-0 to force an encore presentation of game three in Bracket C. In the finals, TSC 97 Red again bested TFC 97 Blue 4-0 to seize the U14 Championship trophy of the 2011 Spring Classic.
